Our mission is to provide a safe haven where these individuals and their children can experience safety and support while they embark on the journey of building stability, healthy relationships, and a foundation for independence.

Our comprehensive approach aims to create a launching pad for          our residents to leave their abusive environments,

begin the healing process, and be able to experience a life with safety, independence, and joy.

A Letter From the Executive Director

Restoration Advocates has undergone several important transitions as the organization has continued to grow and evolve.

What began as a calling in my heart became a shared mission—brought to life by the faith, generosity, and unwavering support of friends, family, churches, and an incredible community that believed in the work from the very beginning.

Looking back on those early days in 2019, I’m still amazed at how far we’ve come. I had no idea how to start a nonprofit or open a domestic violence shelter—but I did know that women and children in crisis deserved safety, compassion, and the resources to rebuild their lives.

With the encouragement of my family and friends, and the generous support of Cottonwood Church in Dublin, we stepped out in faith and began the work to meet this need. This work has continued and grown beyond any expectation I had because of the unwavering support of our community.

Thanks to Keith and Bobbie Nichols, who graciously rented us a building for just $1 a year, we opened the doors to Restoration Place on September 1, 2020. That building quickly became a place of peace, healing, and new beginnings. Since that day, we’ve welcomed 129 women and 151 children into a safe and supportive environment where true healing can take place.

Today, Restoration Advocates operates two homes; one in Stephenville and one nestled in the countryside; with a total of 21 beds. These spaces have become more than just shelter; they are homes filled with warmth and the kind of care that makes people feel truly seen and valued.

It’s hard to put into words what it has meant to walk alongside these families and with the volunteers who have served. I have witnessed tremendous courage in women starting over with nothing but determination and love for their children. One mother, as she was leaving, told us with tears in her eyes, “I have never been loved like I have here.” That is the heart of Restoration Advocates—and what I will always carry with me.

Now, it is time to take an important next step.

As of July 15, I will be stepping down as Executive Director. It brings me great peace to share that Silvia Zamora will be stepping into this role. I first met Silvia in the 1990s when we worked together at the Texas Department of Human Services. Over the years, she has served in a number of social service roles and currently serves on our board. She brings not only experience, but a deep compassion for the women and children we serve—and I can’t imagine a better person to carry this mission forward.

While I’m stepping away from day-to-day leadership, my commitment to Restoration Advocates is not ending. I will continue to serve on the Board of Directors and look forward to volunteering regularly; spending time with residents, offering support, and staying connected to the mission that has meant so much to me.

Thank you, truly, for being part of this journey. Your prayers, your kindness, and your support have helped create a place where healing begins and hope is restored. It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to serve alongside you.

With love and gratitude,
Jeannette Maxwell
